History
Siraj Financial Services (SFS) emerged from a transformative journey that began with the Revolving Credit Fund (RCF), initiated by the Near East Foundation (NEF) in Northern Syria in response to the prevailing challenges faced by MSEs in accessing financing.
With support from the Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and Vitol Foundation, NEF piloted and scaled up the RCF, laying the foundation for what later developed into SFS following the successful implementation of several phases of the RCF.
Through its operations, RCF identified substantial unmet demand for enterprise lending services and recognized its potential to significantly contribute to sustainable economic development and self-reliance in the region.
While the RCF has cumulatively provided over 3,560 loans totaling over $4 million, it was recognized that in order to scale to meet market demand through a commercially viable financial services model, there was a need to transform the program as an independent microfinance institution while upholding a robust social mission. The establishment of SFS underscores a commitment to performance, adaptability, and an unwavering dedication to promoting economic development, self-reliance, and financial inclusion for the betterment of the targeted communities.
